about
‘miss you’ was written in response to the passing of my grandpa just prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sonically, it presents two worlds; the first half of the song being that of the living with its auto-tuned vocal, trap beat and bouncing 808 bassline. Later on however, the piece shifts into more spiritual and perhaps metaphysical territory to ponder what lies beyond. These two parts are tied together by honest and heartfelt lyrics, mining the human psyche in an exploration of grief.
lyrics
Wonder where you’ve gone, keep looking, I write a song,
Sang it all night long, but you can’t hear, but you can’t hear what I say,
Talking on the phone, let out my problems, bring in more love,
Some message from above, I’m hoping will come.
Want to replay all those memories,
Locked so safely, help console me.
Want to fix you,
Tired now, confused,
Old me, brand new,
I will miss you.
Can’t quite find the words, I’m choking, it really hurts,
Focus on my work, but you appear, you still appear in my dreams,
March the 23rd, no friends just family, can’t get too close,
We all walk out the church, I realise you’re first.
Lost it takes you down, down, down, down,
Earthy, burning, sinking quickly.
Want to fix you,
Tired now, confused,
Old me, brand new,
I will miss you.
When it’s all done will you be waiting?
Will you be strong? Will we be the same age?
As moments get clearer the past is fading, it won’t stop,
But I’ll always hold dear, our last conversation.
Want to fix you,
I will miss you.
